January Writing Progress

So here’s my daily wordcounts for January using the method I talked about here!

jan-wordcount-end

I missed a couple days when I went to a convention, the Women’s March, didn’t feel like writing on the weekend, or was working on a blog post, but I did hit 10k by the end of the month, so I’m pretty happy about that. 🙂

The Excel chart is a helpful productivity tool because it doesn’t feel good to write zeros for the days I don’t write… but the zero days don’t discourage me too much because I can see that I’m still ahead of my monthly wordcount goal (yay for manageable goals!).

I still don’t have a whole lot of “ideas” for stories. When I write, I just kind of sit down and dream/visualize. Sometimes I write to music and write what I imagine while I’m listening. Now that I’ve got at least 40 pages of exercises printed out (20 from this month, 20 from November), I’m hoping I can start pairing characters up or start seeing some connections to form an overarching plot. And if that organic way of story creation fails, I have Plot Perfect which is a solid, no-BS guide to the nuts and bolts of plot.

Until next time, happy writing!
